What is new with travel in 2015? Delta airlines with whom I travel a lot, is offering choices for the discerning traveler for the New Year. Those of you who are subjected to airline travel on a regular basis know that airline travel has become a nightmare. Not only for the budget conscious traveler in the economy class, the other classes are subject to over booked planes and mechanical breakdowns also.
Choices sounds good doesn’t it? The truth is that what used to be standard service is becoming an “option” you pay for, which means your airfare is going to be higher if you want to have legroom, water to drink, a pillow, or blanket, and even higher if you want to have priority boarding and be able to stow your carry-on in the overhead bin. You still get a seat with seatbelt, but that might be a luxury “choice” at some point as well.
Fuel prices are down, but air fare isn’t. Hmmm, are we prisoners of the monopolizing airlines? Are we losing the CHOICE to travel?
The transformation you may experience soon is that you will choose a different mode of travel. Remember John Francis, an African American who, after a big oil spill in Southern California, decided to drop out of the petroleum economy in 1971 ? He maintained it for 22 years. He gave up speaking as well, and became a listener.
Walking is an option and it is good for us. Good for the body and the brain. Walking builds neurological connectivity, keeps us more alert, builds enjoyment of living. I know we will never go back to a society of walking, but you can build it into your life as a CHOICE. Walking will transform you. Walking long distances will change you, give you a positive outlook on life. Who does not want that for the New Year?
